Justin Munoz Breaks Mustang HR Record

After 28 years, there’s a new Mustang home run king. On Saturday, Justin Munoz swung his way into the Millbrook record books, crushing his 10th career long ball to pass Head of School Jonathan Downs ’98’s longstanding record.

A shot to dead center, the record-tying dinger came in the first inning of a home game against Pomfret—a first inning in which the first four Mustang batters went deep to set a team record. Justin wasted no time in claiming the HR throne, stepping up to the plate in the bottom of the second inning and blasting his record-setting 10th career homer.

“Justin is so good and so humble that he probably doesn't even know that he has broken a record. Let's not tell him,” Mr. Downs said. “He's got more to accomplish for Millbrook and beyond!”

After Justin finishes crushing moonshots at Millbrook—perhaps even targeting the single-season HR mark of six, set by Ayler Young ’98—he’ll take his talents to Virginia Tech. Playing for the Hokies in the ACC, one of the top baseball conferences in the NCAA, will help him get the attention of pro scouts as he looks to realize his MLB dreams. Until then, though, he’ll be tearing up the diamond at Millbrook, where he’s developed a reputation as a natural leader and selfless team player. No one understands that better than Millbrook Baseball Head Coach Keith Del Valle.

“There are players who produce, and then there are players who define a program; Justin Munoz has done both,” said Mr. Del Valle. “Justin is not bigger than the team. He understands that leadership is about service. He loves Millbrook deeply, and that pride shows in how he represents our school and our program. He has set the standard for what leadership should look like here, and that standard will be felt long after he graduates. Players like Justin do not just leave stats behind. They leave a legacy.”

Justin is truly making his mark at Millbrook, living non sibi sed cunctis both on and off the field. We’re all excited to see where his talents and leadership ability take him at Virginia Tech and beyond!
