Danielle Woodin

A Kent, Connecticut, native, Danielle has been at Millbrook since her IVth form year. She’s worked at the zoo for all three of her years here. Below are some of her thoughts on working at the zoo:

1. What’s your favorite animal at the zoo?

"Originally, I'd say it was some of the snakes, because I just like the snakes a lot. I just think snakes are cool. But I also really like the red pandas, because my friend's obsessed with them, so they’ve really grown on me now."

2. Have you had a favorite zoo experience?

"One of my favorite experiences was playing with the ferrets. They’re so fun because they're one of the animals that love when you touch them and pet them. They love the attention, and they're just so playful."

3. What have you learned at the zoo?

"I'd say, especially this year as a senior, I've learned a lot about being a curator and how to deal with and teach other students in the most effective way. A really effective way is making sure you know their names and then saying their names when you ask for them."

4. What advice do you have for future zoo curators?

"My advice for zooies is to listen to your curators, especially if it's about something important. For example, listen when they tell you to close doors behind you, because you can have animals escape and that's never good. And then for curators, just remember that you're the one in charge and keep in mind that even if the zooies are your friends, you still have to make sure they're not doing anything they’re not supposed to."
