Nga is from Ho Chi Ninh City, Vietnam. She’s worked at the zoo all four years of her Millbrook experience. Here’s a brief Q&A with Nga about her time at the zoo:
1. What’s your favorite animal at the zoo?
I like the galagos because they're so friendly and they come to you when you're inside the exhibit. They just come to you and they're curious about who you are, but they're not aggressive.
2. Do you have a favorite zoo experience?
One time when I was taking care of the wallabies, I forgot my phone in the enrichment basket. The wallabies were just playing with it for a whole day, and so that's a core memory; it never would happen anywhere else.
3. What have you learned at the zoo?
I learned about showing up every day, because even on a free day or on a Saturday when we have community service off, we still have to go to the zoo as curators to help out. No matter what happens, animals still need to be fed. Just showing up and being present in those moments is really important.
4. What advice do you have for future zoo curators?
Take advantage of the opportunities and get to know people. There are really interesting people at the zoo. I never thought that I would be working in a zoo—I'm not really a big animal person compared to my peers—but it's been like a fun little side quest.
