Originally from Tilton, New Hampshire, Abby now lives on campus, as her father is a Millbrook faculty member. She’s been working at the zoo for a year.
Here’s a short Q&A with Abby about her zoo experience:
1. What’s your favorite animal at the zoo?
"My favorite animals are the red pandas. They’re just such a mellow animal, and it’s so fun to see them out and about. Also, they’re super cute and easy to take care of, and I love when visitors stop by and are in awe because that’s exactly how I was the first time I met them!"
2. What have you learned at the zoo?
"I’ve learned that it’s really important to do your job well at the zoo. These animals need to be fed and taken care of just like us humans. So, if you aren’t doing your job well, it’s not fair to the animals to have to endure that."
3. What advice do you have for future zooies?
"My advice for future zooies is to just be present with the animals. Sometimes the work feels like a lot, especially in the colder months, but we truly are so lucky to have a zoo on our campus. It's something that I think everyone should be involved in because not only does it teach you responsibility, but it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most of us."
