Mustangs of the Week

In honor of those student athletes who go above and beyond in spirit, determination, sportsmanship and skill development, coaches nominate a Mustang of the Week. Here, you can read about our current athletes and their contributions to their team and to their school.
SPRING 2025
WEEK OF May 12

Jaicee Downs
Jaicee’s offensive and defensive consistency, as well as her leadership, were key to the team's wins last week against Westover and Canterbury and also in their semi-final win against Hamden Hall. Overall last week, Jaicee went 8-for-13 at the plate, picking up 7 RBIs with 3 doubles and 2 home runs—including one in the championship game against Cheshire.
Casey Berninger
Casey led the Mustang golf team to an impressive second-place finish at the Silo Challenge last week. The team had its best 18-hole match score of the year and Casey was instrumental in the team’s performance, as he finished tied for the best individual score in the field of 36 players, shooting one over par, 72.

Andrea Sassatelli
This past weekend at the Cheshire track meet, Andy not only took home first place in both the 800-meter and 1500-meter races but also ran a personal best and broke a school record in both. She completed the 1500 in 4:38 and finished the 800 race in 2:11. She has qualified for this weekend’s NE championships in both races.
Eason Wang
Also this past weekend at the Cheshire track meet Eason Wang took home first place in the triple jump with an impressive jump of 36 feet. This performance has also earned Eason a spot at this weekend’s NE championships.
WEEK OF April 28

Ireland Schwartz
Ireland picked up two wins this week, securing the team’s win against Berkshire on Wednesday. On Saturday, with the match tied at 3-3, she was in a back-and-forth contest before breaking through with big cross-court forehand after big cross-court forehand to rip off the final three games and secure the win for not only herself but the team. This secured the team’s first ever win against Sacred Heart.
Sutter Schwartz
Sutter helped his team pick up a big home win on Saturday against Frederick Gunn. After being down a set and a game down in the second set, he was able to hang on and win the second set and then win the tiebreaker to clinch the match in front of the home fans. Sutter’s performance helped the boys improve to 7-3 on the season.

Islay MacGowan
On Friday night under the lights, Islay turned in a commanding performance against Frederick Gunn, scoring an impressive five goals and helping lead the team to a big win. But even more remarkable than her goal scoring was the way she led the team by example. No matter where she was on the field, Islay brought relentless energy, contagious positivity, and a strong work ethic that elevated everyone around her. Her versatility, leadership, and commitment to the team’s success made a huge impact.
KJ Pimentel
KJ was instrumental last week in the Mustangs' very important sweep of rival Frederick Gunn. KJ was a leader in offensive production in both games. Last Wednesday at home, KJ went 3-for-5 at the plate, driving in three runs on two very important singles, and also had one big-time triple. On Friday he had another excellent game, scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh in the team’s win at Frederick Gunn. Not only did KJ produce offensively, but he was also solid in the field, playing excellent games at second base.

Jazmin Mejia
Jazmin was a key contributor in the softball team’s two wins last week. On Wednesday, she helped the Mustangs earn their first win against Kent since 2018, picking up a bases-clearing triple and finishing the game on the mound. On Friday, she helped the Mustangs pick up a 16–6 win against FGS, picking up another three hits and again closing out the game on the mound.
Henry Fernandez
Last week, Henry was a driving force in the Mustangs' back-to-back league wins over rivals Frederick Gunn and Canterbury. Against Gunn, Henry scored 10 points, picking up four goals and six assists. This past Saturday, he picked up 10 points on 3 goals and 7 assists. Henry has shown great leadership this year as the team’s captain, always showing up and playing his best in the biggest moments.

Kat LaFond
Kat came up big in goal for the Mustangs in their 12–11 OT victory against St. Luke’s on Thursday. She delivered some clutch saves, shutting down St. Luke’s offense at key points during regulation. Her quick reflexes and leadership of the defense were key to the win, as she turned away several point-blank shots to keep her team in the game.
Dean Repaci
Dean had a fantastic week for the Mustangs, helping the baseball team pick up some big road wins at Williston and Brunswick. Against Brunswick, Dean was an offensive catalyst, going 4-for-6 at the plate. But it was his hit in the top of the seventh inning that made the difference, knocking in the go-ahead run for the Mustangs. He also pitched five strong innings, giving up just three runs.

Vivian Rosen
Vivian had a terrific game against Pomfret in the team’s big win on Saturday. It was only Vivian’s fourth time playing as libero, and she was exceptional. Defensively, she dug in and kept the play alive for her team on numerous occasions. In her serve and receive game, Vivian’s passes were accurate allowing the Mustang's to set the ball beautifully for their attackers.
King Kumahlor
King was an absolute force this past Saturday in the football team’s dominant win over Pomfret. Defensively he had two blocked punts, one of which was returned for a TD, a strip sack, and 2 fumble recoveries. These big plays helped the Mustangs keep the momentum at key points during the team’s 40-20 win over Pomfret.

Stella Renzi
All fall Stella has been the glue in the midfield for girls varsity soccer. This past week, Stella played a major role in the team’s tie at Kingswood Oxford and more recently in the team’s 3-0 win over Holy Child on Saturday. On Saturday, Stella controlled the midfield, helping to shut down Holy Child’s midfield, while distributing the ball to her teammates. In short, Stella has been that two-way player who can make things happen both offensively and defensively. Congratulations, Stella.
Cooper McGuire
Despite never playing goalie before, Cooper stepped into the net for the boys varsity soccer team three games ago when his team needed him most. Cooper has been a quick learner and fierce competitor, and he has made some fantastic saves since taking over the goal. He was crucial in the team’s big wins this fall over Salisbury and Brunswick. It takes a lot of grit to step into such a high-pressure role, and Cooper has been terrific.

Lucy Stettinius
Lucy had an amazing game this past Saturday against Wilbraham and Monson leading the Mustangs to an impressive 5-0 victory. Lucy played a great game both in the midfield and in high attack scoring 4 of the team’s 5 goals. Her strong left hand has made her a force to be reckoned with all season, allowing her to move around defenders and drive the goal with ease.
Marcus Paul
All fall, Marcus has been a key player in BVS midfield, helping to connect the team’s defense with their offense. Marcus has scored some big goals in his Millbrook career but none bigger than against Salisbury under the lights. With a minute and a half left in a tied game, Marcus hit a perfect free kick from 30 yards out that found the back of the net, helping his team secure a huge win.

Lilly Ainley
Lilly has been an invaluable player on the field hockey team this fall. Her tireless work ethic has been evident in each minute of each game. Whether playing at midfield or on high attack, she consistently hustles for the ball and displays great stick skills that help her track down every ball. Her determination was highlighted in a recent game against Frederick Gunn, when she scored a beautiful goal.
Francis Bonsu
Francis has not only brought a tremendous skill set to BVS this fall, but he’s also brought a work ethic to match. Since the first practice of the season, Francis has provided a model of tenacity that continuously inspires others. This past week, Francis scored two goals in the team’s win against Wilbraham, and he scored the team’s only two goals on Saturday against Gunn.

Jazmin Mejia
Since the first day of practice, Jazmin has had an impact on the girls’ soccer team. While the team has had its ups and downs this fall, Jazmin has worked tirelessly in the midfield. As a central midfielder, she’s been a consistent offensive threat, while at the same time supporting the team’s backline. Jazmin’s technical skill and strong game sense has already helped the team improve.
Alex Drury
Alex has been consistently impactful on both sides of the ball on the football team since the first day of practice. Offensively he’s been a leader in the running game, earning three TDs on the season so far. Defensively, as an MLB on the team, his ability to read, get to the play, and consistently make tackles has been a big part of the team’s success.

Andrea Sassatelli
In her first time running on the Millbrook cross-country course, Andrea, in the first mile of the race, ran a sub-six minute mile against FGS and Sacred Heart. Already over a minute ahead of the field at that point, Andrea pushed forward, ultimately setting a new course record for Millbrook girls in 19:50 and taking home first place. 

It was a gutsy performance and suggests just how exciting this young runner’s career will be. Andy has been bringing her intensity to practice every day and is a terrific teammate.
Oliver Fauver
This past Saturday, Ollie took first place in Millbrook’s first cross-country home meet with a time of 20:59. He bested the second-place Frederick Gunn runner by 13 seconds. His first-place showing helped the Mustangs win the meet overall, 26-30. Ollie has emerged as a quiet, respectful, and spirited leader on the team this season.

WEEK OF September 16

Haley Malmgren
Haley had a tremendous volleyball game on Saturday, helping the Mustangs pick up their second win of the season at Harvey. With the Mustangs down two sets to none, Haley fueled a comeback with her consistent serving, allowing the team to settle in and find their game. Haley has also been a great leader on the team. Her positive attitude has had a huge impact, and that attitude ultimately contributed to the win on Saturday.
Oliver Hougland
Oliver has been a real catalyst in the midfield on boys varsity soccer this fall. He has played almost every minute as a center midfielder in some tough, physical games, keeping the group organized even when some key players were out of the lineup. On Saturday, Oliver was instrumental in the team’s 6-0 win at King, picking up one of the most beautiful goals in the season so far.
