Millbrook vs. Hopkins School

Greg Murphy

The varsity field hockey team lost a tough match to a super-charged Hopkins 1-0. We started out a little flat but managed to play Hopkins even in the first half. Hopkins scored a mere three minutes into the second half off a dangerous shot that hit one of our players, Hopkins scoring on the rebound. The goal should have been called back but wasn't. Having a reffing background, I don't usually complain about one-sided officiating, but we experienced it today. That being said, Millbrook did have opportunities to tie it up but the back of the net evaded us time and time again. Millbrook played an exceptional twenty minutes of hockey to end the game, playing with much greater intensity. Defense was truly tested and held up very well, with strong games by Roxborough, Ferrari, Small and Kelly. Especially stalwart was goalie Morrison who had 11 saves on the day. Ascencio also had an excellent game, working the ball well and creating offensive opportunities.
