Millbrook Vs. Kent

Millbrook put it all together on the field, earning a fine win against Kent 6-1. Every player on the team contributed mightily to this win, especially our substitutes who held off a major offensive thrust by Kent who rallied hard in the last fifteen minutes forcing 8 penalty corners alone. Special kudos to Schroth, Zimnoch, Fresne, Fracchia and goalie Maglaque (who made 5 great saves) for denying Kent any goals under extreme pressure. To recap the game: Kent scored first and early, just 3 minutes into the game. We thought we were in for a long afternoon, but something magical happened on offense-- something as simple as ball movement, thanks to excellent passing among the forwards Zublin, Ascencio and Anthony, supported by our strong midfield of Villeneuve, Blundon, Ferrari and Burdis. We tallied our first goal at 15:55, Ferrari centering the ball, Burdis notching the score off the scrum in front of goal. The prettiest goal of the day came at 14:49 as Blundon set up Anthony who took on Kent's goalie 1v1, Anthony finding the back of the net in a sweet move. Anthony would score one more time in the first half and Jen Ascencio scored with just one minute left in the half. Final goal and assist tallies for the day: Anthony 3 goals, Ascencio 2 goals and 1 assist, Burdis 1 goal, Zublin 2 assists, Ferrari 2 assists, Blundon 1 assist. The game was not all offense, however, as Millbrook's strong defenders-- seniors Kelly and Roxborough and freshman Small, Morrison in goal-- played confident, well-orchestrated defense, providing a brick wall behind the midfield. Roxborough's ability to intercept passes and move with the ball, combined with Kelly's excellent drives, made them a daunting team. Morrison had seven saves in the first half. Captain Ferrari had her best game of the season and Blundon proved yet again, she can run all day. Villeneuve did an excellent job faceguarding Kent's top scorer, effectively eliminating her from the game. We missed junior defender Ehrenreich who is recuperating from an injury and will rejoin the team next week.
