Millbrook vs. Williston

The varsity field hockey team played their best game of the season thus far defeating a powerful Williston team 2 to 1, the winning goal coming with seconds left in overtime.  The game went end to end but Millbrook's defense, led by Lauren Roxborough with her best performance yet, proved too tough, powering the ball out time and time again. Kelly, Ehrenreich and Fracchia proved immovable in front of goal. All the scoring occurred in the second half, Williston scoring first on a penalty corner.  With eight minutes left, Jen Ascencio scored off a melee in front of goal, the ball gaining the circle due to fine midfield play from Villeneuve, Burdis, Blundon and Ferrari.  The second goal came in overtime as Anthony, who was battling flu-like symptoms the entire game, on a fastbreak started by a pass from Ascencio, beat Williston's goalie 1v1 to find the back of the net. (Ascencio with an assist on the goal). Only minutes earlier Anthony's shot hit the post in a similar run. The ENTIRE team played with confidence, brains and mostly, with great heart.  A fine win in which every player participated.
