Strong St. Luke’s Offense Overpowers Mustangs on Senior Day

L Peterson
The Millbrook Mustangs hosted St. Luke’s on Saturday afternoon for our senior game.

The Millbrook defense came out firing in the top of the first and was able to keep St. Luke’s at bay with a heads up double play - Stella Renzi ‘26 fielded a hard hit ground ball before checking the runner back to third base, fired it to Ingrid Schmitt ‘26 at first base for the out, and Schmitt then threw it home to Jess Trocchio ‘24 behind the plate, who tagged the runner for the second out. Renzi then fielded another hard ground ball to end the inning.

The St. Luke’s offense was solid in the rest of the game, and they were able to string together a series of hits in each inning.

Going into the bottom of the last inning, the Mustangs showed good fight. Trocchio got things started with a beautiful bunt and advanced to second on an obstruction call. Kelly Naula ‘24 then followed up with another beautiful bunt of her own to score Trocchio. Haley Malmgren ‘25 then got on base before Hailey Mesard ‘25 got on with a hit by pitch. Lilliah Tambourine ‘26 got up to bat with the bases loaded and singled to right field to score Naula. It is fitting that our two runs on the day were scored by our seniors!

With only 3 starters in their regular positions, the Millbrook defense played well and made the plays. Props to everyone who stepped up and played in a new spot.

Big shout out to our 3 seniors - manager Nashle Urgiles and captains Naula and Trocchio. Thank you for all you have given to our team and program!

We look forward to finishing out the regular season next week - we travel to Miss Hall’s on Monday and Canterbury on Wednesday.
