7th Inning Millbrook Rally Shuts Down Harvey Comeback Attempt

L Peterson
Millbrook traveled back down Route 22 for their second away game in two days - and came away with their second win on the week.

Millbrook jumped on the board in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead through the first 4 innings. Haley Malmgren ‘25 singled to get on base before Abby Hylan ‘25 hit a hard ground ball to score her. In the bottom of the first, Millbrook had a nice 1-2-3 inning, with back to back strike outs from Malmgren and a great track back catch from Jaicee Downs ‘26 at shortstop.

The Mustang defense was again strong in the second; after the lead runner got on, it was another 1-2-3 outs. In the third, fourth, and fifth innings, the Mustang defense was also strong - facing either 4 or 5 batters without allowing a run.

In the top of the fifth inning, Millbrook added another run to their lead when Downs singled to score Trocchio who had reached on her own hit. At the end of 5, it was a 2-0 Millbrook lead.

The sixth inning saw runs traded back and forth. In the top of the inning, Ingrid Schmitt ‘26 scored on a hit from Kelly Naula ‘24. In the bottom half of the 6th inning, Harvey got runners on and plated 3 of their own runs.

Millbrook and Harvey went into the 7th inning tied 3-3, but Millbrook wasn’t done for the day. Malmgren got things started with a monster triple to right field before scoring on a passed ball. Downs then singled to get aboard before Abby Hylan followed with a great bunt and heads up baserunning. Schmitt then RBI’ed Downs before Trocchio (running for Hylan) scored on passed balls.

The Mustangs went into the bottom of the 7th with a 6-3 lead; however, Harvey wasn’t done either. They started the inning off with their own triple to right field and a run, but the Millbrook defense buckled down to end the game: Downs with a nicely fielded groundball, Malmgren with a strikeout, and Hailey Mesard ‘25 with a good catch in left field. A 6-4 Millbrook win. Proud of the grit the team showed today.

Defensively, the Mustangs were solid, making no errors on the day. Malmgren had a solid game from the circle - notching 7 strikeouts on the day while also having 8 putouts (to make 15 of the 21 outs herself).

Shout outs also to our multi-hit people today: Jaicee (3), Malmgren (2), Hylan (2), Mesard (2), and Naula (2).

We look forward to celebrating our seniors (Jess Trocchio, Kelly Naula, and Nashle Urgiles) this Saturday during our home game v. St. Luke’s.
