The Millbrook Mustangs travelled to Cheshire Academy for a rematch of last year’s WNEPSGSBA Division B Championship game.
The Mustangs had a good start to the first inning, with Jaicee Downs ‘26 working a walk before Joiee Downs ‘29 moved her over with a great bunt. Despite some passed balls, the Mustangs weren’t able to plate a run.
The bottom of the first inning saw great defense from Millbrook, with a quick 1-2-3 inning courtesy of Meghan Abbatte ‘29 taking charge on the mound and Joiee Downs snagging a line drive and then making a good play on a hard hit groundball.
In the second inning, the Mustangs weren’t able to get anything started offensively, but they did a good job of shutting down the Cheshire offense. Jaicee Downs started the inning with a great read on a hard hit bouncing ground ball to get the out from shortstop to Kate Rubinstein ‘27 at first base. Millbrook stayed poised, even once Cheshire got runners into scoring position, and finished off the inning with another groundball out apiece from the Downs sisters.
Heading into the bottom of the 3rd inning, the score was 0-0. A few defensive miscues, hits that got lucky in finding holes, and an injury led to Cheshire putting up 11 runs in the inning. The Mustang defense then held Cheshire scoreless the rest of the game, making some key outs with the pressure of runners in scoring position.
The Mustangs look to host Miss Hall’s on Saturday.
