The Millbrook Varsity Field Hockey team lost a 4-3 heartbreaker to rival Gunnery on Saturday. Any game between these two is a taut and tense affair, and this one was no exception. The Mustangs came out a bit flat in the opening minutes and Gunnery took advantage, scoring their first within the first two minutes. Millbrook woke up, though, and added two goals in quick succession about eight minutes later. First, Siena Buffa ’16 assisted Chloe Robinson ’19, and then Ellie Muckstadt ’18 took the ball on the left side and slid it across the front of the goal and in. However, Gunnery was able to answer back, and the teams went into the half tied at 2-2. The Mustangs came out of intermission fired up, and when Jill Koop ’16 fired a ball into the circle, Muckstadt was there for the picture-perfect tip past the keeper and a 3-2 lead. Then Gunnery earned a penalty stroke and tied it up again at 3-3 midway through the second. From there, both teams had many chances, before Gunnery finally took the lead for good with three minutes to go. It was a well fought game. The Mustangs close out the season at home on Saturday against Miss Porter’s.
