Alumnae Gather to Celebrate Curiosity
Curiosity is an attribute that is modeled and encouraged at Millbrook in hopes that students will not only be curious here, but that they will lead a life of curiosity. A recent alumna gathering proved that curiosity is alive and well in school circles outside Millbrook's campus.
On February 28th, Caroline Wamsler '87 hosted a first ever event for Millbrook women, a small gathering that began as Caroline wanted to celebrate Millbrook in the context of this year's core value, curiosity. Several alumni and past parents who live in or close to New York City, as well as Millbrook faculty members Cindy McWilliams and Nancy Stahl, joined Caroline for a private tour at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she led the group through a range of works that broadly connect to curiosity, learning, and inquiry or to Millbrook School in a broader sense. Starting at the "curiosity cabinets," the group moved on to Thomas Cole's "Ox Bow" painting of the Hudson River, Vermeer's Young woman with the Water Pitcher and Rembrandt's Aristotle, some Monet, Picasso's Gertrude Stein, the great El Anatsui tapestries, the fabulous Benin pendant mask, the great Archaic Krater, and the burial mask. The tour was followed by discussion and tea at Caroline's apartment.
Our hope is to continue and to grow these types of gatherings, and Cindy McWilliams is currently planning for future events. Having moved from her long-time position as Director of Admission to become Millbrook's Director of Constituent and Alumni Relations, Cindy is focused on bringing Millbrook alumni together for events that support the values upon which the school was founded and continue to be central to the school's functioning today. Bringing Millbrook women together is a top priority. For more information, please reach out to Cindy at cmcwilliams@millbrook.org or 845-677-8261 x103.
