Dzul Dance: An Acrobatic Art

Millbrook alumna Robin Taylor '93 and her company, Dzul Dance, performed their work DANZON in Chelsea Morrison Theater on Saturday, November 6th.

Taylor's husband, Javier Dzul, started Dzul Dance Company in 2002, and they have been gracing stages in the U.S., Mexico, and the Virgin Islands with their acrobatic brilliance ever since. The performance showcased a combination of dance and acrobatic pieces, each with its own unique story. Their mission: to “fuse dance with aerial arts as a means to communicate indigenous pre-Hispanic ritual and mythology and create dialogue between contemporary art and historical heritage.” The fourteen member company displayed contemporary works that highlighted their incredible strength and flexibility.

Members of the Dzul Dance Company, including graduate Robin Taylor, will be visiting with Millbrook's dance classes during the course of the week to workshop choreogaphy and new styles of dance.
