<b>Scholarship, Book and Art Awards for Underformers</b>

While VI formers will have a special night, Prize Night, to revel in their academic, athletic, and community successes, underformers also receive awards and scholarships in recognition of their achievements. The Awards Ceremony for underformers took place on Friday, April 24th during Parents Weekend. During the ceremony named Millbrook scholarships and book prizes from various college programs were given to V form students and art department prizes were awarded to III-V formers.

There are four named scholarships that are given annually, and Mr. Casertano introduced this year's winners:
  • The Nathaniel B. Abbott Award recognizes outstanding citizenship, academic achievement, and commitment to both the school and its Community Service program: Jay Livermore '10
  • The Jackson Scholar Program recognizes an outstanding member of the Millbrook student body who has a strong aptitude in physics, chemistry, astronomy, math, or computer science: Rene Rodriquez '10
  • The Alexander Bodini Scholarship is awarded to a talented Dutchess County student: Ema Waldschmidt '10
  • The Watts Hill, Jr. Endowed Scholarship supports Millbrook's commitment to maintain a diverse student population and is awarded to a talented student of color: Kiara Huertas '10
The Founder's Prize is a V form award which was established by Bradford Mills '44 to recognize a V form student who has displayed an enthusiasm for life's challenges, a creative and innovative spirit, and a commitment to the community and to team play. This year's winner, Liza Cowen, will be traveling to Indonesia during the summer for to participate in an Outward Bound program that she chose.

Dean of Faculty Kathy Havard introduced the V form book prizes and college awards:
Each year a number of colleges and universities recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of high school juniors across the United States and abroad. Millbrok School is proud to participate in several of these programs to honor some of the academic achievements of our V formers.

  • The Colgate University Book Award: Summer Bottini
  • Sewanee Book Award: Laurel Greenfield
  • The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Merit Award in Math & Science: Jay Livermore
  • University of Rochester/Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award: James Matson
  • University of Rochester/Frederick Douglass & Susan B. Anthony Award in the Humanities and Social Sciences: Beryl Roberts
  • The University of Rochester/George Eastman Young Leaders Award: Xan Duhoski
Before bringing the awards ceremony to a close, Mr. Steve Siktberg took the stage to present various art department awards to underformers:
  • Advanced Digital Video: Will Pierrepont '10
  • Theater Arts & Acting: Arianne Wilson '12
  • Choral Music: Cara Frisina '12 and Brandon Pecchia '11
