Reunion Weekend 2003

Mother nature showed no mercy as she continued to send rainy weather to Dutchess County this year and so it was no surprise that Reunion 2003 weekend was not spared. Despite the rain, however, a record number of alumni returned to Millbrook School on June 6-8 for a full weekend of activity.

More than 100 alumni returned to campus to participate in a variety of activities and to reacquaint with one another. Some of the highlights of the weekend were the 25th and 50th alumni reunion dinners on Friday evening, the alumni art show opening, and a dedication of Burton Hall (formerly New Dorm). The traditional alumni parade was foregone this year due to the rain. Instead the bagpiper piped from the chapel steps as alumni came under cover of umbrellas to assemble for Mr. Casertano’s annual state of the school address.

The weekend’s opening of the Alumni Art Show in the Warner Gallery of the Holbrook Arts Center was a well-attended event. Nineteen alumni artists present work in this show which can be seen in person through the summer at the Warner Gallery, or enjoyed on-line on the school’s website (click on One Campus-The Arts-Warner Gallery).

Heartfelt tributes were made to John C. “Sandy” Burton at the renaming and dedication of the former New Dorm in his name. Kind words were spoken on Mr. Burton’s behalf by Director of Alumni/ Development Affairs Bob Anthony ’65, Don Abbott ‘59, former headmaster, and Headmaster Drew Casertano. Mr. Burton eloquently addressed the audience with a history of his involvement in and love of Millbrook School. Burton Hall stands now in his honor.
