A valiant effort by the Lady Mustangs

The lady Mustangs played their hearts out, and most importantly, never gave up against a very imposing (in size and experience) Loomis squad, losing 1-5 in a contest that was much closer than the score indicates. Loomis' goals all came off penalty corners -- not the first shot, but the rebound. Goalie Morrison, her first game in net, made seven clutch saves but our defense had trouble clearing rebounds from a very physical Loomis offense. MIllbrook did have its scoring opportunities as we had numerous fastbreaks from Ascencio, Anthony, Zublin and Villeneuve. We clearly caught their defense napping several times but couldn't quite find the back of the net. Our one goal was picture perfect, however, as speedy Anthony carried the ball upfield, went 1v1 with the goalie who blocked her shot, but Ascencio was in perfect position, pounced on the rebound and as cool as an ice cube, lofted a shot high left to score. Anthony earned an assist on the goal. The team played with heart; never gave up, and clearly our endurance and game sense improve with every game. Special kudos to Blundon, Roxborough, Ferrari and Kelly at deep D for playing strong.
