The overcast and sometimes rainy day could not dampen the spririts of either the competitors or their coaches at the second annual Challenge Cup, held at Silo Ridge. The bronze pheasant will reside at Berkshire School for the follwoing year after they pried it from Salsibury in the Best Ball format. Each school entered 3 teams of 2. The pairs played best ball and the two best pairs' scores were used for the team total. Millbrook's first pair was Sam Rosenbaum and Joe Grossman. They grinded their way to a 41 with the help of back to back birdies. The first birdie was thanks to a Grossman chip-in and the second was a Rosenbaum 15 foot putt. The second pairing of Jake Gagnon and Tyler Kelly, known for their long bomb drives, worked their way to a 40. Tyler spent much of the afternoon wondering when they would get hotdogs and cursing what he felt were sinister greens. The thrid pairing of Elise Almgren and Jayden Reaves performed respectably and carded a 44. In quintessential team golf, they picked each up when needed and worked together in what is often considered an individual sport.
Not only did the Pheasnt Hunters play a gorgeous Fazio layout, but they were treated to a spectacular dinner, including the aforementioned dogs. The squad left the course with full bellies, some nice new swag, and good memories and stories from a terrific outing.
