Abbate with the No-Hitter; Mustangs with the W

Millbrook welcomed Miss Hall's on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

The game started with back-to-back strikeouts from Meghan Abbate ‘29 on the mound and Jaicee Downs ‘26 behind the plate. Two Miss Hall’s players reached on an error and a walk before a great catch on a high pop-up in foul territory by Kate Rubinstein ‘27 at first base (on the 8th pitch of the at-bat).

Offensively, the Mustangs worked several walks, setting themselves up to be brought home by key hits.

In the bottom of the first inning, Rubinstein had an RBI single to score Jaicee Downs. A walk from Emma Lattrell ‘29 scored Joiee Downs ‘29, and a fielder’s choice from Hailey Vigna ‘27 scored Abbate.

The top of the second inning was a 9-pitch inning, with all outs recorded by Abbate—two strikeouts followed by a ground ball to the mound.

The Mustangs took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the second inning. Jaicee and Joiee Downs had back-to-back hits to start the inning. Rubinstein followed with a walk to load the bases before Lattrell’s second walk scored Jaicee Downs. Vigna again put the ball in play for a fielder’s choice to score Joiee Downs. A walk from Sherry Yang ‘29 scored Lattrell, and a walk from Ellie Meyers ‘26 scored Vigna. Jaicee Downs then got back up to bat to deliver a 2-RBI shot to the outfield, plating Hannah Dong ‘29 and Yang. 9-0 Millbrook lead going into the third inning.

The top of the third was another good defensive and pitching inning for the Mustangs—another 2 strikeouts and a ground ball out from Dong.

The bottom of the third inning saw Millbrook plate another 4 runs—Lattrell with the RBI single to score Abbate, Vigna with a great bunt to score Rubinstein, Meyers with the fielder’s choice to score Lattrell, and Jaicee Downs with an RBI single to score Vigna.

The top of the fourth inning was the third 1-2-3 inning of the day (and second inning where Abbate recorded all the outs solo—she had a great reaction to a line drive hit right at her in the circle, followed by 2 strikeouts).

In the bottom of the fourth inning, walks led to the Mustangs reaching 15 runs.

Abbate was strong from the mound, notching 8 strikeouts in 4 innings and earning her first no-hitter as a Mustang! And big shout out to Jaicee Downs for making her catching debut!

The Mustangs look to welcome Kent on Wednesday.
