Boys cross country, girls cross country, boys varsity soccer, girls varsity field hockey, and girls varsity soccer all earned wins this past weekend.
Millbrook’s boys varsity cross country team was declared the division four New England champions of the season. The team went to South Kent for the New England’s race and left their competitors behind despite the brutal course. With nearly no flat terrain, the first mile of the course is nearly entirely up a mountainside. The boys conquered the uphill challenge were proud to place first with 95 points in a field of 220 runners from 33 schools.
The Millbrook girls varsity cross country team also earned a medal over the weekend. They were proud to earn third place overall in the division with their 115 point score. This is the fourth year in a row that the girls varsity cross country team has brought home hardware and it is a testament to their commitment to the sport. Both the girls and boys had runners qualify for the all-star race next weekend including, Sarah Dietrich ‘16, Kelsey McEvoy ‘16, Kerry Carr ‘18, Kazuki Unayama ‘18, and Jackson Lee ’16.
The boys varsity soccer team closed out the regular season with a 6-0 win over Gunnery. This was coach Rick McWilliams last home game of his career and alumni, parents, and friends of Millbrook School all came to the field to show support and Mustang spirit. As a coach, McWilliams’ vision and leadership has resulted in the boys varsity soccer team earning over 300 career wins, 13 WNEPSSA Class C championships, and numerous New England Tournament appearances. The team captured the New England Championships in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2009, and 1997, and has been a runner-up finalist three times. As a result of the win against Gunnery, the boys will move on to play in the quarterfinal games for New England on Wednesday, November 18, at Loomis.
Girls varsity field hockey also closed out their season with a win, beating Miss Porter’s 2-1 in an intense, hard-fought game. Millbrook was in the lead with a score of 1-0 in the first half, but shortly into the second half of the game Ms. Porter’s managed to tie the game 1-1. With just a few minutes left, Jasmine Thatcher ’17 knocked in a goal for the win.
Girls varsity soccer was also victorious, taking the win against Berkshire with a final score of 1-0. Both teams fought hard throughout the entire game. Our girls stuck with it and managed to defend Berkshires attempts at goal and score with only moments left in the game.
It was a great weekend to be a Mustang! We are proud of our athletes for their well deserved wins over the weekend and excited to see them in action in the upcoming championship tournaments and all-star games!
