Mustangs Close Out Season with 2-1 Senior Day Victory

The Millbrook Varsity Field Hockey team closed out its season in style, beating Miss Porter’s 2-1 in an intense, hard-fought game. An injury-depleted Millbrook team gave everything it had for the win. The Mustangs got on the board first midway through the first half when Siena Buffa ’16 took the ball down the left side and fed Riley Croghan ’18 at the top of the circle, where Croghan gathered the ball and sent it in to Heidi Reiss ’16, who swept it past the keeper. The teams closed out the half with Millbrook holding onto a 1-0 lead and played a tense first 10 minutes of the second. Then Miss Porter’s found a way to score and tie the game 1-1 (despite acrobatic diving saves from Patricia Smith ’17, who ended the game with seven important saves), though Millbrook had several breakaway chances and looked dangerous throughout. Finally, with just minutes left in the game, Reiss read the goalie’s positioning (as the team had just discussed at the half) and sent a beautiful pass to Jasmine Thatcher ’17 on the left post. Thatcher knocked home a picture-perfect sweep to earn the win for the Mustangs. Great job by everyone, and special recognition to our four seniors—Reiss, Buffa, Jillian Koop, and Lucie Collimore. All four were huge for Millbrook all year, and we’ll miss them next year. Big congratulations to Koop and Croghan, who will represent Millbrook in the WNEPSFHA All-Star game at Suffield Academy tomorrow. Thanks for a wonderful season.
