Millbrook's Academic Center opened in the fall of 2009 with the purpose of serving students with diagnosed learning differences in the areas of reading, writing, mathematical skills, and executive functions. The goal is to support these students in a way that enables them to be successful at Millbrook School and empowers them to take ownership of their educational experience.
From an initial interview and a careful review of educational testing, the student is involved in a goal-oriented dialougue and assessment process that specifically identifies areas of need. The focus of all activities is the acheivement of the highest level of individual academic success and the development of compensatory and self-advocacy skills. In order to acheive these goals, each student is actively involved in the entire process and a consistent degree of communication among faculty, staff, the Academic Center, and the family is maintained.
