Millbrook School is a melting pot of world cultures, and each year that pot overflows with delicious eats for everyone to enjoy at the World Culture Food Festival. This year the festival theme was desserts, and dozens of student chefs took over faculty kitchens to cook up a feast of sweet bites. In addition to sharing favorite treats from their culture, they were competing to be crowned World Culture Food Festival champion.
Under the big tent next to
Casertano Hall, the culinary teams set up tables with samples of their chosen desserts. The 2025 iteration of the festival featured three new records: 40 participants, 29 dishes, and the most boys ever to don an apron. And when the flour dust cleared, a total of 16 different countries were represented.
There was brigadeiro from Brazil, puff-puff from West Africa, gallo pinto from Costa Rica, olive oil cake from Greece, syrniki from Russia, and tiramisu from Italy. The festival also included a huge selection of Asian dishes, including mango sago, mitarashi dango, tangyuan, butter rice cakes, soya bean curd with boba & ginger syrup, and fired milk.

Community sweet tooths indulged, and almost 90 of them voted for their favorite dishes. With so many amazing delicacies on offer, the competition was as fierce as it was delectable. In the end, Dean Repaci ’26, Cooper McGuire ’25, and Frankie Lombardo Jr. ’26 received the most votes for their tiramisu and flag cookies. The trio of pâtissiers received their just deserts in the form of chef hats, snack bar gift cards, and a rousing ovation in Friday Assembly.
Syrniki (Soniya Tomer ’27, Catherine Page ’27, and Sylvie Tadikonda ’27);, brigadeiro (Fifi Novaes Ferreira ’25); babka, rugelach, and coconut macaroons (Ella Romick ’26, Rachel Nayman ’26, and Lulu Abrahms ’27); and cookie brownie sundaes (Tyler Tatelman ’26, Chris Gannon ’26, and Brett Kohut ’26) all received runner-up nods.
“It’s wonderful to see everyone enjoying the food and each other’s company,” said World Language Department Director Zhaohong Wen, who organized the festival. “Once again, food brought people together. It’s such a meaningful way to share and celebrate culture.”
