Mustangs Repeat Scoreline: 1-6

Injuries and illness continue to plague boys varsity this year. We even lost a player to the SAT. With three players joining us from JV—Will Vollmer, Ray Matano, and Charley Li—we knew it would be an uphill battle against a talented TP squad. The top five TP players all won 3-0, and while there were good points in moments, we struggled to do more than react to good shot placement.

At the #6 position, Will Vollmer came close to winning the third game, losing 11-13.

Both #7 and #8 were five-game matches. Charley won the first and fourth games only to drop the fifth 5-11. He battled hard and should be proud of his efforts—consistency was his biggest challenge. Notching the sole victory for Millbrook was #7 Ray Matano, who lost the first two games, 9-11 and 3-11, before figuring out how to wrongfoot his opponent using powerful serves and well-timed drops. He won the third 13-11, the fourth 11-4, and after going down 0-4 in the fifth, battled to win the fifth game 12-10. It was a gritty victory, well-earned, and Ray did a great job maintaining his focus and calm while under pressure.

Again, another good test of where we can get better, and we look forward to facing TP at the end of the season.
