The lady Mustangs gave GA 2/3's of a good game; we even caused a little GA heart failure by scoring the first goal of the game at 19 minutes. However, we were not able, at the end, to stop the offensive onslaught. We also gave up way too many penalty corners, and would pay dearly for those errors. GA is undefeated (6-0-1) and has only allowed 7 goals. Nice to know that two of those goals came from Millbrook.
Millbrook's defense got tested early and often by GA's fast forwards who were adept at drawing penalty corners, earning nine corners in the first half alone (to Millbrook's 0). Not a good ratio. Fracchia saved the day several times as fly on the PC's, stopping the shot dead at the top of the circle on more than one occasion. Nelson in goal also made two spectacular saves. We were also, quite honestly, lucky as several hard shots went just wide of the net. Millbrook did have some offense as Steele-Norton was especially effective moving ball down left side. Ten minutes in, we were scoreless, until the Mustangs, pressing hard in our offensive circle, scored off a scrum in front of goal. Fitzpatrick passed the ball from right wing to Burdis at the stroke mark who whipped off a hard shot and scored at 19:00. GA ratcheted up the intensity and it is to the entire Millbrook team credit that we held them off for the next 15 minutes. At 2:13 GA scored off a hard shot from the right to tie it up 1-1, and came right back and scored again to take a 2-1 lead into half.
We started the second half flat and tired, and it cost us. GA scored off their first of seven PC's in the second half, then scored again off a scrum in front of goal in another PC situation. The Mustangs did not give up however, and capitalized on their one and only corner of the entire game. Burdis stopped the injection from Steele-Norton, passed to Fallon who passed ball back to pouncing Steele-Norton who scored a zinger at 15:13 from the left. Assist to Fallon. Score: 2-4. We were still giving GA a game at this point but we simply ran out of gas at the end as GA scored two late goals. The entire defense and Nelson in goal were sorely tested and held off an offensive onslaught that never abated.
