Power In Community: Internship Opportunities Within the Millbrook Alumni Network

At Millbrook the strength of our community is integral to our mission and to our motto – not for oneself but for all. Millbrook relationships are deep, abiding, and exceptional; and many of our students and alumni have found exciting opportunities to further explore their passions as a result of these connections.

Olly Cohen ’16, who has been interning at The Vaan Group this summer, is one such alumnus. Cohen ’16 first learned of The Vaan Group in his IV form year through an Intersession course that he was participating in:

“We took a field trip to The Vaan Group as a part of the course, and it exposed me to digital design, as well as what it means to work in that industry,” said Cohen ’16. “I knew that I wanted to pursue an internship prior to going to college, and when I started thinking about different possibilities, I thought of The Vaan Group immediately.”

A digital design firm in New York City, The Vaan Group was founded in 2011 by Millbrook alumnus Xavier Van Meerbeek ’06. The Vaan Group has worked for clients including Ann Taylor, Gazprom Int., and Loft among others.

Because of their Millbrook connection, Cohen ‘16 was able to reach out to Meerbeek ’06 directly about potential internship opportunities, and has since been spending his summer immersed in digital design.

“I’ve been helping increase Workspace Williamsburg’s online presence, I’ve also done research on the digital design industry, client research, and have been able to practice using Adobe Photoshop,” said Cohen ’16 about is daily activities.

“It has been a privilege to work both in one of the greatest cities in the world, and at a prestigious organization in an industry of my interest. To have this opportunity prior to attending college is truly a result of the resources and skills I gained from Millbrook,” said Cohen ‘16

Relationships are at the heart of Millbrook School, and opportunities like that of Cohen’s ’16 highlight the continual growth and benefits of our community.
