Candlelight Service: A Moment of Reflection before Break

Community is what makes Millbrook such a special place to spend high school years. That’s why we uphold traditions that bring the community together and remind each member that what really matters, even more than the academic rigors that dominate school life, are the relationships formed here. In that spirit, Millbrook convened in the Flagler Memorial Chapel on Thursday night for the annual Candlelight Service.

In a chapel adorned by pine boughs and flickering candles, the community enjoyed various performances from their peers. Elaine Lifter’s Public Speaking class delivered readings, and the Millbrook Singers and various instrumental ensembles offered up festive tunes. Art Department Chair Joe Raciti commended on the power of the musical performances in Assembly the next day, noting that they made his heart swell three sizes.

As is tradition, the service ended with everyone singing the school hymn, “For the Beauty of the Earth,” followed by Formal Dinner in the Casertano Dining Hall. The fall semester’s final moment of communal reflection lifted both faculty and student spirits as they entered into one of the most challenging yet exciting stretches of the year—the week of assessments that precedes a long winter break.
