The Millbrook Softball Team is the 2011 WNEPSGSBA Class C Champion after beating Harvey 9-0 in the final on Sunday. The team played an excellent all-around game from the start and did not let up. After both teams had a scoreless first inning, the Mustangs put up six in the second. Meg Ahern '13 got things started with a single, came around to third on a stolen base and a wild pitch, and was singled home by Melissa Sheeran '14. Holland Harvard '13 reached on a dropped third strike, was moved over on a stolen base and a Nell Gridley '12 bunt, and came around to score on an error. After a Bria Horsley '14 bunt single, a Melissa Rome '11 single, and a fielder's choice from Amber Koenigsberger '13, the bases were loaded for catcher Tori Trovato '12. Trovato sent a ball to deep left for a three-run double to put the Mustangs up 6-0. Millbrook added an insurance run in the fourth, as Chloe Gbai '12 put down a sweet bunt to get on base, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch, and then was brought home on Rome's sacrifice fly to center. Millbrook ended the scoring in the bottom of the sixth, as Trovato (who drove in five of the team's nine runs) crushed a two-run double, scoring Gbai and Rome. Ahern pitched the complete game shutout for the Mustangs, allowing just two hits. She struck out 15. Millbrook did an excellent job in the field, not making any errors. Overall, it was a fantastic effort for the Mustangs--the new WNEPSGSBA Class C Champions.
