Williston 1 - Millbrook 1

Millbrook nearly stole all the points in overtime at Williston Saturday evening, but had to be content with a 1-1 tie, earned when Olivia Farrell scored an unassisted goal with five minutes to play.  The hosts had just as many chances to win in OT, but Melissa Rome, who would likely have earned the "First Star of the Game" had the game been televised, was not about to give up any goals at that point, and she ended up saving 39 out of 40 shots.  The equally stingy Meghann Treacy did not have as much work at the other end, but she, too, came up big when she had to and it was a true battle of netminders.

Williston had the edge in play throughout, as the visitors were unable to match tempos until late in the first period, with the hosts crashing the net time and again but managing to score only one goal, by Erin McCullough on a second rebound, and it was to be their last.  Millbrook crept back into things, and while outshot in each period, managed to create dangerous opportunities of their own on the break  Louise Steele-Norton and captain Kelly Fallon gave Williston's defenders fits from start to finish, and the Mustang defense managed to hang on just enough to help Rome keep a clean sheet after the first period.  Molly Chapman, who had not had much ice time to prepare, got stronger every period and was a force, while Emma Hart, Rachel DeSimone and Ema Waldschmidt worked hard to stave things off.  The penalty kill was more effective than the even-strength defense, with Cora MacKenzie doing a particularly good job.  Rookies Allanah Roopchand, Meg Ahern and Alexa de la Guardia improved with each period, Patricia McCarthy battled hard, and there were good signs for the season to come.
