Millbrook vs. Gunnery

Greg Murphy

The Millbrook Mustangs traveled to Washington Depot for a rare Monday afternoon contest against D II rival Gunnery. The game started off with both teams exchanging goals to keep the game close during the first twelve minutes of the game. It would be Beau Parent, 08’ that would cash in on the first goal of the day for the Blue and White, as he took a fast break pass from Ryan Fanning 07’ to start the scoring at the 11:36 mark. Unsettled play by both teams resulted in a track meet type pace with a 6-5 Millbrook lead going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Millbrook defense of Dan Mascoveta 07’, Ryan Fanning 07’, Nick Farrell 08’ and Zack Fuller 09’ kept the Gunnery offense scoreless. Goaltender Chris Bennett, 08’ would settle into his game by stopping 8 shots in the quarter. The Mustangs would find the back of the net three more times in the period and took a 9-5 lead into the intermission. In the third quarter the defense continued to keep the pressure on and defensive middies Mike Perl 07’, Kirk Baldo, 08’ and Mike McDonald 08’ controlled the play between the restraining lines. Dan Mascoveta, 07’ would take an outlet pass from Chris Bennett, 08’ and take the bread to the basket for his first goal of the year. Dan’s goal established the tempo for the rest of the afternoon. In the fourth quarter, Millbrook would only allow Gunnery one goal and add three more to the Mustangs total on the day. Third Former Alex Harvey would take advantage of his time on the field and was able to collect two goals to close out the win with a 14-6 victory. It was a hard fought game by both squads and with Berkshire on Wednesday; Millbrook will look to carry this momentum into the game on Wednesday against the Bears. Go Mustangs!
