Suffocating Second Half Defense Propels Mustangs to Victory

Millbrook traveled to rival school, Pomfret, on Saturday for a class C clash. For the Mustangs dressing only 7 healthy players, the first half proved to be a back and forth battle. Pomfret came out shooting, and Millbrook was able to find some open baskets in transition, resulting in a 28-20 lead for Millbrook at half time. At the start of the second half, Millbrook came out on a mission - a defensive mission. The mission looked like aggressive ball pressure all over the floor, connected communication, players in passing lanes, and body contact on rebounding opportunities. The result was a near perfect defensive half, where Millbrook allowed 0 points until there was a minute and a half left in regulation. Throughout the defensive clinic, Millbrook manufactured baskets, shared the ball, and played disciplined defense to harvest success. As a 7 player team after a near three hour drive, Millbrook learned about their character, and learned how to excel on a day when they did not have their best offense. Millbrook looks forward to getting healthy, getting practiced, and gearing up for the Holiday Tournament at Ethel Walker next weekend.
