Mustang Meetups Across the Northeast

Millbrook’s Advancement and Alumni Relations Office hit the road to connect with alumni over the summer and fall. Mustang Meetups across the northeast provided great opportunities to catch up and share good news.

We kicked off our summer gatherings in July at Cisco Brewery in Boston, where 25 alums from across six decades gathered to reminisce and talk about all things Millbrook. An August reception followed at the home of Lea Attalla P’21 in Sagaponack, New York, and there Head of School Jonathan Downs '98 spoke to a group of alumni and current and prospective parents about this year's core value, curiosity, and how students and faculty were focusing on it in ways big and small. He asked attendees to consider whether schools kill or cultivate curiosity, and a lively discussion ensued. A few days later, John and Nancy Cavanaugh P’03, ’04, ’08, GP ’18 hosted alums and parents at the Nantucket Yacht Club. Mr. Downs and others were again on hand to discuss Millbrook's past, present, and future, and to field questions.

With school back in session in September, J’nelle Agee ’06 and Steve Lewis ’04 hosted the annual Black and Latin/x BBQ on campus. All Black and Latin/x alumni were invited to connect with current students over a casual meal followed by s’mores around a firepit. Black and Latin/x faculty were invited to the annual event, and students received a gift bag curated with care to enhance their experience and express appreciation for their presence in our community.

"The Black and Latin/x Alumni BBQ is a unique tradition that goes beyond celebration,” said Dean of DEI Prince Botchway, “It is a testament to the strength of our community and is a shared experience that fosters a sense of belonging and support for our present Black and Latin/x students."

Looking ahead, Mr. Downs and Director of Admission Meg Grover will visit families and alumni in Korea and China leading up to Millbrook’s annual fall reception at the Harvard Club in New York City. More regional Mustang Meetups are in the works for the winter and spring months, and we'll share information as we have dates and locations confirmed.
