Drury and Downs lead Millbrook girls to 4th place finish at the Canterbury Invitational

Coach Havard
Millbrook Girls Cross Country opened the racing season with a strong team performance at the 50th running of the Canterbury Invitational on Saturday. The girls D2 race proved the fastest girls race of the day, with Claire Palmer of Kingswood-Oxford setting a blistering pace in 18:48. Tri-captain Juliet Drury ran a smart, strong race and finished third overall, notching her best personal time on the course in 20:33. Jaicee Downs battled in the top 20 all race long, and she finished 14th with her best time of 24:23. Next in for Millbrook was tri-captain Aiden Corbin, who found another gear in the final half-mile and passed a number of runners to take the 28th spot. Newcomer Ingrid Schmitt had an impressive first high school race, finishing 4th for Millbrook and 37th overall, and tri-captain Sarah Eagen rounded out the top five in 40th, cementing a 4th place finish for the Millbrook team overall. Congratulations to Hailey Mesard and Tracy Yin for their solid contributions as our 6th and 7th runners. A day of high spirits, camaraderie and resolve, as we scoped out our competition for the rest of the season! Next race is on our home course next Saturday against Frederick Gunn, Sacred Heart, and Westover. It'll be exciting!
