Mustang Football is Back with a Season Opening Win!!

According to Captain Jason Weiss, this is the first Mustang football game in 685 days.  The Mustangs did not miss a beat from 685 days ago in their season and home opener against Harvey, with a 52 - 26 win.  All the Mustang points were scored in the first half, with touchdowns by a number of Millbrook players.  A tough Millbrook defense kept Harvey at bay with just 12 points at halftime.  This is the first game and win for Millbrook's Head Coach Prince Botchway.
The Mustangs returned Saturday (9/25) to Callard field against Harvey almost 2 years since their last game.  Repeating the past, Millbrook started slowly but quickly gained momentum.  Millbrook fumbled the opening kickoff which led to a short drive by Harvey.  Harvey turned the ball back to Millbrook on downs.  On their first offensive play, the Millbrook offense had a quick strike on a 50-yard passing play from QB Mac Elliott to WR Matt Sardo for a touchdown at 10:26 in the 1st quarter.  With Elliott scoring a 2-point conversion, the Mustangs then led for the entire game.  Harvey scored on the following possession with no conversion. On the At 4:20 left in the 1st quarter, QB Elliott scored a touchdown on a 3-yard rush.  A successful 2-point conversion on a pass from QB Elliott to WR Sardo continued the lead.  At 9:21 remaining in the 2nd quarter, RB Nolan Cadieux scored on a 3-yard rush to give the Mustangs a 22 point score. At 6:18 remaining in the 2nd quarter, RB Jaylen Thatcher scored on a 7-yard run with a 2-point conversion by QB Mac Elliott.  At 2:52 left in the 2nd quarter, QB Mac Elliott scored on a 23-yard run.  When Harvey punted on 4th down on the following series, FS Matt Sardo ran the punt back 50 yards for another Millbrook touchdown.  A 2-point conversion by Elliott appeared to be the final scoring opportunity for the half.  However, safety Sir Solano returned a Harvey punt for the final Mustang touchdown for the half and the game.  RB Jaylen Thatcher scored a 2-point conversion to give Millbrook its 52nd point.  Millbrook gave up one more touchdown before halftime to make the score 52-12 at halftime.  After halftime, Millbrook rotated through its other players to give them valuable experience, with the final score 52-26.

The Millbrook defense was effective with MLB Nolan Cadieux leading the Mustangs with 7 tackles.  Other Mustang tacklers were:  Jason Weiss,  Jose Gonzalez, Nico Brevetti, Mac Elliott, Matt Sardo, Johnny Rigolino, Eli Crystal, Jaylen Thatcher, Ashton Colangelo, Carl Posse, Rocco Borland, Davis Chader, Sir Solano, Aaron Jean-Francois, and Elijah Edney.

QB Mac Elliott led the Mustangs with over 100 yards rushing.

Millbrook has a bye next week and will face for the first time Hebron Academy in Maine on October 9th.
