13 Mustang Runs Not Enough for the Win v. Canterbury

The Millbrook Mustangs took on the Canterbury Saints at home on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs jumped out to an early 8-0 lead but were not able to hold the lead for the duration of the game.

The Mustangs plated a whopping 8 runs in the second inning. The inning was led off with a single from Maya Miller ’23, followed by smart at bats from Danielle Singer ’22 and Daina Velez ’21 (both earned walks) to load the bases for the top of the order. Morgan Reed ’22, Tommi Nash ’22, Evelynn Najork ’22, and Carina Mancini ’21 all found their way on base with walks, fielder’s choice, or errors, moving runners along the way. Miller then singled in 2 runs.

The Mustangs offense stayed hot in the third inning with Reed, Najork, and Bessinger all hitting stand-up triples. The Mustangs added to their run-total in the 5th inning, after Nash singled, stole second, and was scored by Bessinger’s RBI. Beth Najork ’23 scored in the 6th inning, off Jess Trocchio ‘24’s double. And Nash led off the 7th with a double and was scored on an error.

Defensively, we made some Sports Center Top 10 worthy catches – shout out to Trocchio for her awesome snag in leftfield and Nash for her diving catch at second base. Kat Dalrymple ’23 also had a great throw to Mancini at third to catch a stealing runner in the 6th inning to get a crucial out.
