It's Official - Casertano Hall Dedicated
During a moving and heartfelt twilight Thanksgiving service on the Flagler Quad, Trustee Peter Chapman announced the board’s resolution to name the dining hall in honor of Drew and Linda Casertano. As Millbrook’s headmaster over the past 31 years, Mr. Casertano has brought to fruition a period of unparalleled growth and development. Above all else, he worked diligently to create a strong, supportive community where students achieve their highest personal goals in a rigorous college-preparatory program while working towards the greater good for all.
Physical manifestations of Mr. Casertano’s commitment to moving Millbrook forward are all around: Hamilton Math & Science Center, Holbrook Arts Center, Koenigsberger Hall, and the newly monikered Casertano Hall, to name a few. Casertano Hall, where students, faculty, and staff gather for meals, fulfills its mandate daily. The airy and light-filled main dining room seats hundreds at tables of eight, designed to allow for all to converse, creating an environment that is both grand yet intimate. Mr. Casertano’s devotion to the big picture is balanced by his attention to the innumerable smaller details; it is often these details that make Millbrook better by design.
In his address to the school community from the chapel steps, Mr. Chapman emphasized the dedication as a particularly fitting tribute and said, “Drew and Linda have created a community where everyone has a seat at the table.” Similar words are inscribed upon a plaque to be installed once a formal ceremony can be safely held.
Following the outdoor service, VIth formers joined the Casertano family and guests for the first formal dinner served in the newly-dedicated space. Headmaster-Elect Jon Downs ’98 welcomed diners who then honored Mr. Casertano with a standing ovation. After some brief remarks, Mr. Casertano thanked the board for the honor and offered a toast.
Hewing to Mr. Casertano’s fondness for nautical metaphors, it can be said that his 31 years at the helm were eventful and productive. His unwavering stewardship has charted a bold course for Millbrook and supplied great momentum for Millbrook's continuing journey forward.
