Mustangs win at Gunnery

The Mustangs awoke after a slow first quarter to comeback and beat Gunnery.
The Mustangs traveled to 4-0 Gunnery for the first time in two years.  Millbrook started off the game slowly and gave up two quick touchdowns in the 1st quarter.  Later in the 1st quarter, Millbrook came alive and sustained a 13-play drive running the ball consistently in short gains.  The drive culminated with a FB Mike Nassif score on a 8 yard touchdown run, with a QB Matt Amato 2-point conversion. During the 2nd quarter, QB Matt Amato continued the Mustang scoring with two touchdown runs of 30 and 35 yards, respectively, including one 2-point conversion. The halftime score was 22-22. The Mustang defense also came alive with two DE Alex Murray sacks, and a key pass breakup by FS Mac Elliott. In the 2nd half, the Mustangs became a dominant force on both offense and defense, clearly frustrating the Gunnery team.  The Mustangs started the 2nd half with another QB Matt Amato TD run of 4 yards, coupled with a SB Alex Murray reception for a 2-point conversion.   Defensive pressure on Gunnery's quarterback coupled with excellent secondary coverage shut down the Gunnery passing game. Sacks by DT Jason Weiss, DT Jack Linnartz and DE Alex Murray also helped thwart Gunnery's passing game. Gunnery scored only 6 points in the 2nd half, due to the Mustang defense.  Other key tackles were made by DE Jaylen Thatcher and MLB Mike Nassif.  DE Alex Murray scored a touchdown on a 76 yard interception return, coupled with an offensive 40 yard reception for another touchdown. QB Matt Amato added another touchdown with a 3 yard rush.  A Mac Elliott fumble recovery on the ensuing kickoff allowed Mike Nassif to score the last Mustang touchdown on a 12 yard run. The offensive scoring blitz was helped by the Mustang offensive line of C Jason Weiss, G Jack Linnartz and G Stillman Smith. FB Mike Nassif helped open a path for Matt Amato's rushes with his highly effective blocks.  Next week, the Mustangs travel to Forman.
