Mustangs Top Saints

With the rainy weather finally taking a break this afternoon, Millbrook played host to Canterbury for a Class C matchup. The Saints came into the contest with a 9-4-1 record and from all reports a much improved squad. The Lady Mustangs knew they were in for a battle but with a strategy in place, they were ready. As it was expected, Canterbury pressed Millbrook's defense (Daina Velez '21, Greta Garshagen '19, Brysha Schmidt '22, Dora Harag '20, and Elise Almgren '20) early but the defense unit held strong. With 8 minutes into the match, Millbrook's Jalia Musah '21 broke through Canterbury's defense and found herself all alone with the Saints keeper - Millbrook 1, Canterbury 0. It would only take another minute before Musah would do it again. Millbrook would take the lead into the half.  After the brief intermssion, both squads took to the field to play another 40 minutes. As they did to start the game, Canterbury came out hot. With 6 minutes lapsed, Olcese managed to collect a loose ball and served a cross across the goal mouth for a fellow teammate to run onto. Millbrook's lead was cut to one. For the next 12 minutes, the ball would bounce back and forth with neither team having many good looks. As they did in the first half, Millbrook was given an open opportunity and they took advantage of it as Bailey Tymeson '20 slipped a pass to a cutting Suwaibatu Mohammed '19 who returned the lead to 2.  But to Canterbury's credit, they did not fold and knotted another goal 3 minutes later with Olcese getting her first on a corner kick. The last 20 minutes of the game saw Millbrook's backline tighten up and kept the Saints at bay with Almgren making 11 saves on 13 shots.

The win was extra-special as the day was dedicated to the 7 seniors who will be moving on after the season is over. The coaches and underclassmen want to thank the seniors for their commarderie and leadership - they will be missed. The 7 seniors are, Reilly Van Duyne, Carolyn Whiting, Helene Apollon, Greta Garschagen, Adelaide Armah, Lizzie Chamberlin and Suwaibatu Mohammed.

Next up, Berkshire.
