Mustangs Top Westover, 14-7

The Millbrook Varsity Softball team beat Westover, 14-7, on Monday afternoon. After two days of rain, the field was wet and muddy, but the Mustangs fought through the tough conditions to earn the win. Millbrook got some excellent offensive performances, especially from Riley Croghan '18, who crushed two home runs and accounted for five of the team's runs. Emma Gotthelf '19 got on base in all five at bats, with four singles, a walk, and four runs scored. Helene Apollon '19 had two RBI singles, and Kelly Phan '18 and Sam Besca '18 had RBI as well. Westover kept trying to mount a comeback, but every time they scored, the Mustangs put a few more on the board to hold them at bay. Croghan earned the complete game win, striking out nine and walking just one. There was good defensive work at shortstop by Gotthelf and gritty play at third by Piper Strautman '21. Foote also gunned out a runner who was trying to steal. The Mustangs will be back at home on Wednesday against Suffield.
