Millbrook welcomed award-winning author Jason Reynolds to the Chelsea Morrison Theater for the first forum of the school year. A standing-room crowd had the privilege of hearing Mr. Reynolds describe his journey from reluctant reader to recipient of countless prestigious prizes for his novels and poetry for teens and young adults. Mr. Reynolds spoke about his drive to connect with young people through books and the importance of hearing from and listening to readers.
Millbrook also welcomed BIPOC faculty and staff from local independent schools to attend, in the hopes of furthering Mr. Reynolds’ message. Following his presentation, Mr. Reynolds signed books for attendees.
Mr. Reynolds’ story of his discovery of literature through rap music was delivered as a compelling and engaging narrative and his frank responses during a question-and-answer session made for an especially fun and illuminating forum.
