School Nurse Per Diem
Millbrook School is seeking a per diem registered nurse. The per diem school nurse position is a non-exempt hourly position that reports to the director of the Miller Brown Health Center. The schedule is based on when school is in session or students are on campus.
Requirements
- Must possess a NYS RN license and CPR certification.
- Minimum one (1) year nursing experience.
- Must have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new programs.
- Schedule requires the ability to work flexible hours, based on the needs of the health center.
Duties and Responsibilities
- General care and medical distribution for the student population.
- Monitor and dispense prescription medications based on instructions from physicians & parents.
- Evaluate students’ ailments and work closely with the nurse practitioner and medical director.
- Communicate with parents & teachers pertaining to any & all medical emergencies, illnesses & injuries.
- Examine and authenticate vaccination records.
- Educate students on handwashing, germs, and other health care and safety issues.
- Maintain accurate and organized medical files on students.
- Knowledgeable in facility Privacy Practices and complies by protecting all students’ health information.
- Other duties as assigned.
Specific Requirements & Essential Functions
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, students, and family members.
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition & the ability to work harmoniously with others.
- Ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
- Be able to follow written and oral instructions & be proficient in written communication.
- Must be knowledgeable in the use of office and computer equipment.
Physical & Sensory Requirements (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to work in person (on campus) and must have the ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with others.
- Must be able to operate office equipment.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move office equipment, supplies, etc., without restrictions.
- Must be able to assist in the lifting, moving, positioning, or evacuation of students in need of medical attention.
In compliance with the NYS Salary Transparency Law, the rate for a per diem or part-time RN is $40.84/ hour.
