The Millbrook varsity hockey program plays an extremely competitive 32-game schedule in the New England Prep School Ice Hockey Association. The team plays in three tournaments throughout the year: The Brooks School Tournament, The Belmont Hill-Nichols Tournament, and the Empire Cup (co-hosted with Trinity-Pawling).

In our recruiting process we seek out student athletes who are serious about becoming part of a community where they will be more than simply hockey players. Being a member of the Millbrook community means pushing oneself in the classroom, being a leader in the community, and carrying oneself with dignity while treating others with respect.

The Millbrook hockey mission statement:

1) To challenge each one of our student athletes to go beyond their comfort zone in order to reach their full potential both as an athlete and as a person.

2) To develop each player’s character and to give each player the tools, both on and off the ice, to be successful in college and beyond.

3) To emphasize skill development and to deepen each player’s knowledge of the game.

4) To help prepare each of our student athletes to play at the college level, whether it be at the Division I or the Division III level.

The Millbrook hockey program is led by head coach Vincent Sorriento. A Millbrook graduate (1996), Coach Sorriento has been the head coach at Millbrook since 2009. In addition to coaching hockey, Coach Sorriento serves as the director of athletics at Millbrook. Coach Sorriento lives on campus with his wife and four children.

Bio
Kevin Soja arrived at Millbrook in 1998 and served as the Assistant Varsity Hockey Coach to Bob Howe for four years. Granted a leave of absence for the 2002-2003 school year to earn an M.A. in Private School Leadership from Columbia University, he was appointed Head Coach prior to his return to Millbrook in 2003. Coach Soja was a four year letter winner at Colby College where he played for the well-respected Jim Tortorella, brother of Tampa Bay Lightning Head Coach John Tortorella. In 1996, he helped lead his team to the NCAA play-offs. The following year, his team captured the ECAC League Title. In the spring of 1998, the college presented him with the Norman E. White Award for inspirational leadership and sportsmanship.

The independent boarding school world is certainly not new to Coach Soja. Before going to Colby College, he spent his junior and senior year at the rival Hotchkiss School, graduating in 1994. Hotchkiss was one of the prominent prep school hockey teams in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s under Coach Jeff Kosak, highly regarded as one of the finest coaches in New England prep school hockey. Millbrook had their most successful year under Coach Soja in 2005-2006, finishing 16-14-3 and ranked 7th in Western New England. If you watch the Millbrook hockey team, you will quickly notice that his players skate well, compete hard and have immense pride for their school.

Bio
One of four Millbrook Pecchia brothers – along with Craig ’00, Brian ’03, and Brandon '11 – Mr. Pecchia was delighted to return to Millbrook a few years ago after graduating with a B.S. from Skidmore. “I couldn’t stay away from Millbrook. I loved the closeness of the community here when I was a student and I love being part of it once again."

Mr. Pecchia is often tucked away in his Callard House office working as the Director of Millbrook's Annual Fund. But he loves escaping to the ice as the assistant boys varsity hockey coach; he not only played hockey for Millbrook and was one of the varsity captains, but also went on to captain Skidmore's men's hockey team.

Bio
Vincent came to Millbrook from Rumsey Hall School in Washington, Connecticut where he headed the Math Department, was head Hockey Coach since 2001, and coached soccer and baseball. A graduate of the State University of NY at Cortland with a BS in Business Economics, he was a member of the varsity hockey team at SUNY Cortland in 1997 and 1998. He is currently enrolled in the history masters program at Western CT State University.

Congratulations, Matt and Evan!

Matt Dubuc, who led all of New England in goals this season with 38, will be playing hockey next year at Middlebury College in Vermont. Senior Captain Evan Haney will be playing hockey next winter for Connecticut College.
