2007 Prize Night and Commencement

Millbrook School's 76th commencement exercises were held on Monday, May 28. Seventy members of the class of 2007 graduated, many of them receiving honors and awards both on that day and on Prize Night, the evening before. Congratulations to all of the graduates and to the commencement prize winners listed below:
2007 Prize Night and Commencement Award Winners:

The Sportsmanship Cup—established by the class of 1942 for sportsmanship and fine athletic service. Sportsmanship is the ability to win or lose with good grace and a spirit of contribution above what is expected.
Winner: John Marcel Dubaz
 
The Community Service Cup—whose citation reads simply “for excellence in community service.”
Winner: Joshua C. Rutberg.
 
 
Summa Cum Laude – At commencement in 1962, Headmaster Edward Pulling announced that he and Mrs. Pulling were establishing a special award to honor the ranking scholar in each graduating class; a plaque on which would be inscribed each year the name of the VIth former who, during his or her final year, stood highest in the class.
Summa Cum Laude graduate: Sarah Goodsell Bogdanovitch.
Four-Year Varsity Letter Award - presented to any four-year student who lettered in the same varsity sport, or sports, for four consecutive years.

Frederick W. Knutson Trophies - presented to the outstanding male and female athlete in the graduating class.

McSweeney Tour Guide Award - presented to the senior who has gone above and beyond the call of duty as an ambassador of the school.
Winner: Kaleigh Ferrari

Class of 1978 Award
- presented to the senior(s) whose spirit and enthusiasm has significantly enhanced the traditions of the school.
Winners: Julia Heffernan and Ed Hagele

Headmaster's Merit Awards
- presented to the graduating seniors whose personal strengths and contributions merit special recognitions.

- presented to students who demonstrated outstanding achievements in the following arts:

The Christian Stehle Technical Theatre Award
- presented to the senior who has demonstrated a true commitment to technical theatre.
Winner:  Pardis Zahedi

Nathaniel B. Abbott Cup
- presented to the senior who has contributed greatly to the creative spirit on campus and made the most significant contribution to the fine arts at Millbrook School.
Winner:  Daisy Glazebrook

English Writing Prize
- presented for sustained excellence in written expression including analytical and imaginative compostion as well as papers submitted to more than one academic department.
Winners:  Sarah Bogdanovitch and Wesley Moore

Sykes Mathematics Prize
- presented to seniors who have demonstrated in curiousity, enthusiasm, persistence, and verve that defines excellence in a mathematician.
Winners:  Julia Heffernan and Jung Eun Kim

Clark Language Prize
- presented to the seniors who have demonstrated excellence in oral proficiency and cross-cultural understanding.
Winners:  Mike Perl and Sarah Bogdanovitch

Frank W. Trevor Cup
- presented to the senior who has made the most significant contributions through study, project, or zoo work to the natural sciences at Millbrook School.
Winner:  Daisy Glazebrook

Science Prize
- presented to a senior who has demonstrated achievement, curiosity, and creative thinking in exploring scientific concepts and who clearly strives for excellence in all science disciplines.
Winner:  Ed Hagele

Blaine History Essay Prize
- presented to a senior who offers the best essay concerning an issue of contemporary or historical significance.
Winner:  Jung Eun Kim

Cum Laude Induction
- a national honor society that recognizes independent school students who have maintained the highest academic standards.

Mt. Holyoke Book Prize - presented to a junior who has produced an excellent academic record and who has exhibited qualities of leadership and service in the school community.

- presented to a junior who has achieved the highest academic distinction in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum while showing outstanding leadership.

RPI Merit Award in Math and Science - presented to a junior whose scholarship is evident in the study of math and science.

University of Rochester/Bauch and Lomb Science Award - honoring an outstanding junior science student.

University of Rochester/Xerox Humanities and Social Sciences Award - presented to a junior with outstanding achievement in the humanities and social sciences.
Winner:  Devin Hardy

University of Rochester/Kodak Young Leader Award
- presented to a junior who has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities.
Winner: Jin Soo Han

Kenyon College Presidential Book Award - presented to a junior who embodies the highest level of intellectual engagement, creativity, and commitment to community that are central to the liberal arts and sciences.
Winner: Joanna Ehrenreich

English Poetry Prize- presented to the student who has submitted the finest portfolio of original poetry.
Winner:  Dan DeMarse

Founders' Prize - presented to a member of the junior class who has displayed an enthusiasm for life's challenges, a creative and innovative spirit, and a commitment to the community and team play.
