Millbrook Makes Good Contact, but Hits Don’t Fall in Loss to GFA
L Peterson
The Millbrook Mustangs travelled down to Westport, CT to take on Greens Farms Academy. The Mustangs made good contact all game but were unable to find holes in the GFA defense to get rallies going. The GFA centerfielder made some great plays, including robbing Abby Hylan ‘25 of a 2-run homerun.
GFA took advantage of some Millbrook defensive miscues and some good hitting to score a run in the 1st inning and another two in the 2nd inning. The Mustang defense then held GFA for the next two innings before giving up another run in the 5th inning.
In the top of the 6th inning, Millbrook tied it up, 4-4. The Mustangs took advantage of a hit by pitch, a walk, a dropped third strike, some passed balls, and a hit from Abby Roberson ‘26 and an RBI from Hailey Mesard ‘25 to plate four runs.
In the bottom of the 6th, GFA retook the lead, 6-4 - but the Mustangs were not done. Anel Cabrera ‘25 led the inning off with great contact to the outfield, which was snagged by the centerfielder. Stella Renzi ‘26 then laid down a beautiful bunt but GFA made a terrific defensive play. Jazmin Mejia ‘25 and Jaicee Downs ‘26 then both got on with hits to set the stage for Roberson - who made solid contact but was called out at first on a bang-bang play.
Defensive Highlights:
-Mejia had 8 strikeouts on the day.
-Downs had great range at shortstop today, including robbing GFA of a hard ground ball hit fully up the middle.
-Renzi snagged a rocket of a line drive at 3rd base for a key first out in the 6th inning.
-Cabrera had a great line drive catch in right field.
