The Millbrook Varsity Field Hockey team's win streak was broken against Rye Country Day on Wednesday in an 0-3 loss on the Mustangs' home turf. The game was a story of two halves--a terrible first half in which Rye grabbed a 3-0 lead, and a hard-fought second half in which Millbrook looked like a different team. The Mustangs came out of the gate sluggishly, and sloppy play, mental mistakes, and timidity let Rye dominate the proceedings. After halftime, though, the Mustangs decided they wanted to get in the game, and they came out with exponentially more hustle, focus, camaraderie, and intensity. The game was even and every single Millbrook player stepped her game up. The Mustangs certainly had several chances to score, but couldn't quite find the back of the cage. Keeper A.B. Fuscone '12 had a much better second half--making many nice saves, including saving a penalty stroke. Kayla Schmalz '14, Maddie Schmalz '13, Heather Neuburger '13, and Cate MacKenzie '15 should all be commended for their hustle in the second half. Millbrook will look to rebound--and play with intensity for a full game--at Sacred Heart on Saturday.
