Westover

Another game that started out with challenges -- a long trip, a bit of a wait for the start, and only 11 players, so no subs.  We had a weak first half -- nobody seemed to want to run, we lacked the aggressiveness that we've shown and that we need, and generally, we seemed lethargic.  It didn't help that an injury left us with only 10 for more than half the game.  We were very pleased, however, with how the team responded to some halftime criticism.  They came out in the second half determined to work hard and play better, and they did.   This group continues to impress with it's supportive and appropriately aggressive encouragement of each other.  It's a cohesive and tough group, and even playing with one fewer player than Westover didn't discourage them.  Special nods go to Mansell Ambrose, who continues to provide positive and continual verbal leadership to the team; to Laurel Stine, who had a particularly fine game both in playing the stopper position and in backing up the fullbacks when needed; and to Laura Van Pelt-Mezzanotte, who worked very hard throughout the game and never quit on a ball.
