Millbrook 0 at Berkshire 8

Millbrook took on a strong Berkshire team this afternoon at the bright, new Berkshire rink, having not played the Bears in ten years.  After a scoreless first period in which the hosts had the firm edge but the Mustangs had a few dangerous forays, and a few minutes of the same in the second period, Berkshire scored the opener on a rebound off another in a series of fine saves from Melissa Rome.  There was no sense of panic on the visitor bench, but there should have been because it was 3-0 mere minutes later.  After a time-out, the Mustangs fought back and sustained a long forecheck, buzzing the net repeatedly.  As it developed, that was the last fightback of the game, and for the first time this season, Millbrook eventually dropped all resistance.  After conceding a fourth goal, Millbrook switched goalies and while Erin Doerrsam put up a brave fight for the rest of the second and the start of the third, the roof truly caved in soon thereafter and the team slumped to its worst defeat in three years.  It was four goals more than the team had conceded all season, and the energy was as low as it had been high at Kent on Saturday.  Berkshire had a lot to say about that, of course, lifting its game in the second period and beating Millbrook to just about every puck from that point on for a much easier win than had looked possible in the opening minutes!
