Millbrook 0 -- Kent 3

All signs pointed towards Millbrook busting out of its scoring slump following a run of well-played games with no points in the win column.  Indeed, the home team jumped all over the visiting Kent squad from the opening whistle and had the edge in territory and possession, as it would for most of the game.  For all its efforts, though, the Mustangs could never find that little something special that just about all goals require, and the game remained scoreless after one.  It was more of the same in the second save for some confusion after a delayed penalty was called against Millbrook and Kent's Caralyn Barrett alertly slid the puck form the point past an unsighted Melissa Rome.  Two minutes later, the opportunistic Lions took advantage of a turnover at the blue line and Alyssa Lustenring skated in untouched to add to a lead that may not have reflected the edge in play, but certainly proved the adage that the team that takes its chances usually wins!

The third period was a virtual shooting gallery as Millbrook took the play to the tiring visitors, drawing four penalties with its hustling play but never getting the all-important goal that might have turned the game around.  Pucks flew through the crease with regularity, but the Mustangs never actually got that close to scoring as goaltender Julie Bengis skillfully avoided giving up any dangerous rebounds.  With 1:30 to go, Millbrook pulled Rome and drew another penalty but even with the two-player advantage could not set up a good shot and Kent ended up with an empty-netter to finish matters with 11 seconds left.  It was yet another gut-wrencher, but despite the poor outcome probably Millbrook's best effort of the year and one that the team will hope to build on.
