Millbrook took up where it left off the day before against G.A., creating one dangerous opportunity after another to start the game against a strong Lawrenceville team, but not converting. The visitors survived the opening flurry well (once again it was clear there would be a hot goalie to beat, this time Sarah Bryant) and then the visitors took the lead on a nice deflection by Sara Culhane. The Mustangs knew they were in an official scoring slump when Louise Steele-Norton skated in untouched and roofed a beautiful shot which just about everybody saw but the unlucky, screened-off referee -- while she and her teammates skated over to celebrate at the bench and the visiting players slumped, the whistle never blew and one of Lawrencevillers alertly took the puck down to the other end and nearly scored! Millbrook had seemingly tied the game, but it was not to be, and then the Big Red scored two more, taking advantage of defensive lapses to end the period three up and firmly in control.
Millbrook put up a good fight in the third, and just when it looked as though the scoreless streak would extend to three games, Steele-Norton finally managed to score on a goalmouth scramble on assists from Meg Ahern and Kelly Fallon. After a time-out designed to get goalie Erin Doerrsam off the ice for an extra skater, Lawrenceville had other ideas and controlled the puck for all but the last thirty seconds for a well-earned win. With the snake-bite removed, though, the Mustangs will hope the bounces will even out, as they say, in the next few games!
