Millbrook 1 at Gunnery 3

Gunnery outplayed Millbrook this afternoon in every phase of the game, giving the visitors an object lesson in the effectiveness of team commitment and hustle in a well-deserved 3-1 win.  The Mustangs came out flat for the second game running, but so did the Highlanders, and Millbrook actually held the edge in shots and chances, but there were no goals.  Both teams knew they had to make an adjustment at the break, but only one did, as Gunnery dominated the second period, taking a 2-1 lead by the end (with a Megan Ahern rebound goal for Millbrook sandwiched in against the run of play).  Marena Izzi's breakway goal to begin the third, one of many breakaways allowed by an uncharacterisically mistake-prone Millbrook team, finished off the game, and despite some great individual efforts, the visitors never really looked like scoring after that.  Gunnery goalie Kirsten Bouthiller did a good job all game controlling Millbrook's shots and rebounds.  It was a tough afternoon for the Mustangs, and one which they will try to forget as quickly as possible!
